I started learning my instrument when I was: My musical career actually started in Early Childhood Music Education when I was only 3 years old. After that, I started recorder lessons at 6 years old, flute at 8 years old and finally found my main instrument, clarinet at 9 years old. Always keep in mind that finding your own instrument might take longer than you would expect 🙂
My favourite style of music is: There is a style of music for every mood. Sometimes when I just want to relax or concentrate on something, I put classical music on. At the moment I have been listening to a lot of funk music as well.
My favourite piece of music to listen to is: I love Shostakovich Symphony no. 10. Especially the second and last movement. That piece is hard core.
My favourite piece of music to play is: Whatever I am practicing at the time. It feels so satisfying when you finally manage to practice all the difficult parts and the piece doesn’t feel difficult anymore!
The best performance I’ve ever been to was: Hard to pick just one. Martin Frost as a clarinet soloist with Royal Concertgebouw orchestra in the Netherlands. Martin Frost is my clarinet hero.
The best performance I’ve ever given was: I have two favourites. First, our high school All Stars big band’s concert in Royal Albert Hall, London to 17 000 people. We were the special guest of Music for Youth festival in 2009. My other favourite is when I performed as a clarinet soloist with Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra. I played Benjamin Brittens Movements for Clarinet Concerto.
Something I really love is: Warm Weather
Something I don’t like much is: Excuses
Something you might be surprised to know about me is: I play 7 different instruments.
