What is DIM Connect? Why does it have to be different from my old program?
For a lot of our students, the only difference with DIMConnect is that everything is now online. You can still have a tutorial (private or group) and you can join in a rehearsal too. For those who prefer to scale back at this time, we are offering access to our live stream sessions ($120/term), and for those who need to stop altogether, your membership will simply be paused until all this is over.
Why do I have to pay for online lessons?
While we will be making lots of online content available at no cost, we still need to sustain our business and pay our tutors during this time. Online zoom lessons (private or groups) will be moving forward with minimal changes to their structure and there is no change to their cost. Our DIMConnect ($120/term) offers unlimited access to the live streamed sessions and will be sufficient to keep kids playing through this time, at minimal cost, these sessions are unlimited – you can attend as often as you like.
Why can’t I play with just my own school ensemble?
Usually, we run over 100 ensemble rehearsals face-to-face every week, involving up to 50 different conductors, however in the current climate, it is just not viable to continue with this model.
Why can’t I play the same music my school band was playing?
For some of our students, the music will be the same as what you’ve been playing at school, for others it will be different. We need to make careful choices with our repertoire selection so that we can cater to all of our many students at this time. Don’t worry you’ll go back to your school music, once this is all over and our rehearsals are school based once again.
I’m only a beginner, and I don’t know if I’m doing anything right. I need more help!
We truly feel for all of our young beginners! The first term of playing is always the hardest, and you guys are now dealing with all this too! Our Program Managers are available for some short one-to-one zoom sessions over the holidays to ensure you’re on the right track. Just send through a quick email to email@example.com and we’ll make sure you get booked in.
What Bonuses will I get?
We’ll be hosting virtual concerts for each of our schools. There’ll be video collaborations for those students who are happy to send in videos of their playing. We also have pre-recorded online lessons and other video content that will be available on our DIM Youtube Channel and Website. There’ll be regular school check ins with your Program Manager and opportunities to collaborate with other students and tutors too.
What is a ‘Live Streamed Rehearsal’
These sessions are designed to include students across all of our schools in large groups (sometimes over 100 or even more!). We have a pro zoom account, so noone will miss out, we can accept up to 1000 kids in our meetings! You won’t be able to hear each other, because it would sound really loud and distorted, but you can see each other, and you can hear the conductor, you’ll be playing along with tracks so you’ll know what the piece sounds like with a whole band.
If you’re shy or unsure about joining these sessions, you can join in with no video – you won’t be seen or heard, but you can see what the others are doing and decide if you’d like to give it a go.
The music we’ll be playing is on the DIM Website, so you can easily download it for the session. We’ll be covering the same music in the Live Streamed Sectional Sessions (see below), so we can work really hard on perfecting it so it sounds great.
If you’re comfortable submitting a video of yourself playing your part, we’ll even be able to put together some virtual band performances – this will be the really fun part!
What is a ‘Live Streamed Sectional’
These sessions are similar to our live streamed rehearsals, however they will only include students who play the same instrument. You’ll be playing the same music as the band rehearsal, so this is the time you can get help with just your part.
You’ll also be able to interact via the comments box which is helpful if you have specific questions or comments to make.
