Instruments - Rent or Buy?

Good Quality Instruments are Essential for a Great Start

It can be overwhelming trying to choose the best instrument for your child. Once their instrument choice has been confirmed, you really only have one decision to make - to rent or to buy.

It is so important for all of our young students to start out on a good quality instrument. While the price tag of a cheaper instrument can be tempting, they are typically more difficult to play; they can lead to poor posture and technique, and they can be difficult to repair when they inevitably have issues.  Like other things in life - you get what you pay for, so we encourage you to choose quality for your child's first instrument.

You definitely don't need a top of the range model!

We recommend good quality, established instrument brands like Jupiter and Yamaha to ensure you get off to the best start possible.  Most instrument brands offer a competitively priced basic student model - this is a perfect option for beginenrs, it will definitely see you through primary school and most of high school too if your child continues on their musical journey.

Rent or Buy?

Instrument rental is a popular option for many beginner band and strings students, because  it means that you are not 'locked in' for your first year of playing.

There are many options for Instrument Rental around Sydney, and you'll find that most include a 'Rent To Buy' option which means that you are 'paying off' your instrument while renting, which is helpful if you decide to purchase it at a later date.

Of course you may choose to purchase your instrument initially, and just remember - there is no need to go for the top of the range options, the student models are absolutely enough to get through the first 5-10 years of playing!

DIM has a limited number of pre played instruments in stock for purchase. You can check pricing and availability through our online store, click below for details.

Rent or Buy - either is fine, as long as your instrument is good quality, you'll be sure to be 'Off To A Great Start'!
